Tamarindo is located on the northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, on the Nicoya Peninsula. We have a six-month wet season and a six-month dry season, but one thing we never have is cold! You can surf all year ‘round in Tamarindo, so don’t worry about the weather!
This is the perfect beach for learning to surf! The waves are generally small to medium and the long stretch of sandy beach where we teach is fabulous—no rocks, no strong currents, nothing to worry about at all except catching waves. Within easy driving distance are several other gorgeous beaches that are safe for beginning and intermediate surfers. “Surf trek” day-trips are available upon request where we take you to our other favorite spots and teach or surf with you.
In Costa Rica, we greet each other with the expression, “Pura Vida!” which means “pure life” Used as a hello and a goodbye, it is also a philosophy of life. This versatile phrase embodies a strong sense of community and sharing, warm acceptance of differences, a deep appreciation of the simple and most meaningful things in life.
Tamarindo is a small town with residents from all over the world as well as local Costa Ricans. Not every place takes credit cards, but you can use dollars anywhere. traveler’s checks will work fine for your hotel but most small businesses (like me!) really hate them. When you aren’t in the water you can choose from many different kinds of cuisine, take fun day trips, go to a yoga class, go fishing, dive, snorkel, ride horses or ATVs through the mountains, get a massage, go out dancing…and of course we have grocery stores, doctors, a pharmacy, lots of little shops and internet cafes.
